Story
Salmon are a large part of my childhood. Almost every weekend my family would raft, camp, and fish the Kenai River in Alaska.
The entire weekend felt dedicated to the salmon; carefully attaching your hand-tied flies to the line of your rod, exercising patience as your lure lazily fumbled down the river, celebrating a big catch with a "yip!" or a "wahoo!", collecting river rocks to build a small pen in the water to keep the fish cold, tediously prepping the fillet and storing it away to eat for months to come. As kids, my best friend and I would even pluck the teeth (yes they have teeth!) out of old salmon carcasses and keep them as pocket treasures... creepy children!
This is part of a small series that celebrates locally caught & gathered food, and the various ingredients it is prepared with.
Process
Hand carved linoleum block printed on 80gsm white washi paper with oil-based printmaking ink. Each piece of paper is hand torn with a deckled edge.
Paper Size - approximately 9 x 12 in
